I am Sabrina Anderson and have attended the REU program at the University of Wyoming
for the summer of 2001. As an aspiring astrophysicist, I found the program to be very
instrumental in fueling my love for the field and helpful with regards to preparing me for the
tediousness of research. Ever since the third grade when I learned that "My Very
Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas" and sometimes "...Purple Noodles," I
have been hooked on learning about the universe and all of its secrets. I want the
chance to search for answers that are so fundamental to our existence.

Here is some background information on myself. I am 21 years of age with two daughters and
a husband. My babies are ages 3 and 1. So if you did the math correctly, that means I had my
first-born when I was in high school. Even so, I still came out of school with a 4.0 grade point
average and the honor of being Valedictorian of my graduating class. I had my second baby
while a physics major in college (no small feat) and still maintained a 4.0 GPA. I don't claim to be
a genius (I wish), but I do claim to be a hard worker and usually a quick learner. At the University of
South Alabama, there is not a separate department for astronomy although there are some superb physics
instructors. Basically, I have all this physics in my head without having been able to apply it to what I really
want to study until the Wyoming REU.

A few final notes: One reason that I applied for the program in Wyoming was because of its open spaces and clear skies. I love the outdoors and, of course, love the night sky. Unfortunately, there is not much to see at night here in Mobile, AL because of the clouds, haze, and ambient light. I would like to thank everyone who taught me some of the constellations while I was up there. That information became very useful when camping with the students in the chemistry REU. It is completely different to see the constellations in person compared to looking at a celestial map in a book. I would not trade the experience for anything.

Thank you for the invite.
