My name is Frances Rivera, I'm a sophomore at the University of Wyoming and I am double majoring in Astronomy and Geology.
I'm originally from Puerto Rico, and I came to Wyoming last year to pursue my long interest in astronomy.
I have been interested in astronomy as long as I can remember, but I think the definite turning point was when I saw the comet Hale-Bopp in 1997.
Last year I took a geology class, and that got me into planetary science.
Which in turn made me declare the second major. Right now my main interest is on planet formation and on planetary surface processes (more specifically I'm interested in fluid dynamics).
.
In my spare time I like to hang out with my friends, go hiking, swimming, etc (outdoors stuff).
And obviously I also do astro and geo in my spare time.
I go collecting for rocks or else I'm trying to learn some linux stuff or just trying to teach my friends some constellations.
And when I'm in Puerto Rico I like to go scuba diving and snorkeling
Although school takes up much of my time, my other interests are road bicycling, hiking, fishing, and photography.
Arizona’s diverse terrain and weather offer many opportunities to pursue these activities year round.
