Rebecca Harbison

Rebecca Harbison is a junior at the University of Nebraska -- Lincoln, which
means, despite living in a small city, she hears a lot of cow-tipping jokes
from non-Midwestern students. She is a physics and mathematics double major
who squeezes in as many history and language classes as she can. She has
been working with Dr. Martin Gaskell's research group for the past 2.5
years, studying the variability of active galactic nuclei. She has given a
talk at the Mid-America regional Astrophysics Conference on seeing based
effects, and has displayed work several times at the UNL Undergraduate
Research Conference. This is her first REU, and she is very happy to be
doing something non-quasar-related this summer.
In her free time, Rebecca has many hobbies, including cartooning and
writing. She has a fondness for Japanese animation and comics (anime and
manga), which has introduced her to the study of Asian history and language,
as well as to the food -- she cannot turn down offers of sushi. She
maintains a website at http://www.fozzee.net/stareyes. Overall, she values
being well-rounded and unique.
